This memorial website was created to remember my dearest mother, Geraldine M Gilligan who was born in Jersey City,  N. J.  on January 24, 1923 and passed away on April 12, 2008. You will live forever in my memories and my heart, Mom - Your Brokenhearted Son, Jack.

My mother was born on January 24, 1923 in Jersey City, N.J. to MaryEllen (Burke) Nesbihal and Philip Nesbihal.  Her father was a committeeman under the Hague administration.

My mother graduated from St. Bridget's elementary school and Snyder High School.  During World War II she worked in the Harborside sending supplies overseas.  After the war she and brother Edward (since deceased) both found work in Western Electric.  She left Western Electric after meeting my father (David L. Gilligan) and getting married.

They eventually settled in East Keansburg (now Middletown) NJ.

I was born on December 4, 1958.

On April 19, 1964 my father passed away while working an overtime shift at Atco Tile in Keyport, N.J.

My mother worked all of her adult life including the fateful day of April 1, 2008 when she fell and broke her hip.  She developed double pneumonia and passed away on April 12, 2008.

My mother worked for Dr. Martin Alperin, M.D. in both Middletown and Holmdel and later for Dr. S. Ayoub, M.D. in Holmdel.

She worked so she could provide me with an education in parochial schools

St. Catherine School East Keansburg - class of 1973 and Mater-Dei High School - class of 1977 along with Monmouth College (now Monmouth University) class of 1981.

My mother lived with me and I am an only child, single with no children of my own.  Consequently, I miss her so much !

Gone forever is my mother and best friend and I pray she is at rest and that one day soon I may be with her and my father.

My mother was a devout Roman Catholic and passed this on to me.  Our faith teaches us of the resurrection on the last day.  I pray that on that day we may all be together.

Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and perpetual light of peace shine on her.  May her soul and the souls of the faithfully departed through the Mercy of God rest in peace.  Amen
